Community:
We believe that:

  • the Kodiak Island Community must be informed of existing and developing technological opportunities.
  • our community will require demonstrations of the potential applications of existing technologies, and must have the resources available to electronically publish local cultural information.
  • our community must share local resources to link Kodiak to the global community.

Equity:
We believe that:

  • all members of Kodiak Island communities must have access to information technologies in order to maintain equity with the world.
  • training is vital to the use of technology and should be available to all members of our community.
  • all members of our island community should have unrestricted access to global information networks, i.e. Internet.
  • all people of our Kodiak Island community should have unrestricted access to appropriate technology.

Ethics:
We believe that:

  • respect, tolerance and honesty are as critical in the use of technology as skills needed to use technology.
  • the community can and must develop and implement standards for ethical use of technology.
  • each technology user is personally accountable for his/her own ethical behavior.
  • all technology users need to take a leadership role in upholding ethical standards.

Learning:
We believe that:

  • learning is a continuous process for students, teachers, and community, and that technology enhances learning by empowering and motivating learners. Technology should be integrated into all areas of the curriculum.
  • to maximize learning, students must acquire specific technology skills. Educators and community members must be provided opportunities for ongoing, relevant training in current technologies.
