Staff Development Mission Statement:
Effective staff development is an ongoing, proactive, teacher centered process which determines and achieves a common teaching and learning direction, designed to meet the individual and institutional needs of the Kodiak Island Borough School District. The desired outcome of all staff development efforts is the improvement of instructional practice on a daily basis in the classroom and the enrichment of the educational experience for all students of the Kodiak Island Borough School District.
Staff Development Committee
The Staff Development Committee is made up of volunteers from each of the town schools who are willing to serve for the entire year. We have one rural itinerant who serves as our representative for the rural schools.
Functions of the Committee:
- Communicate/facilitate ideas on improvement of the teaching/learning process.
- Through the committee process, translate needs, ideas, and research into action.
- Assist in the planning of the October, District inservice program.
- Assist in the planning of the Rural inservice program.
- Through the committee process provide input for the staff development activities associated with grant programs.
- Assist in the development of a system for conference attendees to share new information with other staff members.
- Confer with District administrators to share ideas on staff development to improve the teaching/learning process.
