Course Description
Prerequisite for AP: Honors American Literature or teacher recommendation.
Major Texts: Introduction to Literature - (LIT) Kennedy
Perrine’s Sound and Sense - (LIT) Arp
Supplements: Various articles and critical essays from The Norton Anthology of Criticism and on-
line journals, including Studies in Short Fiction, Modern Fiction Studies, Contemporary Literature, Twentieth Century Literature, etc. Also, various films will be presented including various renderings of Hamlet, the BBC version of Oedipus Rex, Mrs. Dalloway, A Passage to India, Crime and Punishment, Native Son, and Death of a Salesman.
Purpose
Advanced Placement Literature and Composition prepares students with necessary, critical tools for the written explication and analysis of great works of literature from a variety of eras, genres, and cultures. The culminating event of this course is a successful completion of the Advanced Placement exam at the end of the year.
