Intro Biology
10th grade; Offered as a year-long course
Prerequisites: none, teacher recommendation required
Biology topics are used as the framework to improve study, organizational, processing and expressive skills through speaking, listening, reading, writing, and the use of technology. Students investigate characteristics of organisms, the relationship of organisms with their environment, structure and function of cells, genetics, classification, and a survey of organisms: bacteria and viruses, fungi, plants, protists and animals. Often field studies are a significant part of the class in the fall and spring. Typically this course supports students who would benefit from its modified curriculum.

Biology 10-12 grade; Offered as a year-long course Prerequisites: Earth Science, Co-Requisites: Chemistry/Environmental Studies with Approval This course covers the traditional life science areas of biochemistry, genetics, cell structure and function, classification, the history of life, and animal anatomy and physiology. Laboratory experiences are an integral part of this course.

Human Anatomy & Physiology 11-12 grade; Offered as a year-long course Prerequisites: Biology; Chemistry suggested Course begins with examination of human classification and taxonomy showing humans to be both similar and unique to other organisms. Embryology traces the developmental changes occurring as organ systems are established in the fully developed human by birth. System focus is on the skeletal, cardiovascular, nervous, muscular and immune systems. Accompanying dissections include bird eggs, long bone, heart, brain, eye and, cats. Instruction is lecture, text and lab based. Career investigations, research and presentations, popular journal articles, guest speakers are part of the course.
