Mr. Dale Lhotka, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Bemidji State University and a Master of Arts degree in Teaching Secondary Education from the University of Alaska Southeast, Mr. Lhotka directs all fields of musical study at Kodiak High School. At KHS since 2002, Dale feels privileged to be working a job in an area that brings his two passions together: music and the outdoors. He spends much of his free time fly-fishing the rivers of Kodiak Island. Mr. Lhotka also serves as an adjunct faculty at Kodiak College and the University of Alaska Southeast.

Chamber Ensemble
9-12 grade; Offered as a year-long course
Prerequisites: Teacher approval
Students will perform a variety of standard instrumental and vocal literature in concerts, at community events, and in the Region III Music Festival. Music theory, basic musical composition, and music history will be studied. Students will have the opportunity to work on solo/ensemble music and are eligible to participate in the All-State, All-Northwest, and State Solo/Ensemble Music Festivals.

Concert Band
9-12 grade; Offered as a year-long course
Prerequisites: Prior experience with traditional band instrument.
Students will perform a variety of concert band literature in concerts, and at community events. Students, in combination with Jazz Band students, will serve the school community as the performing Pep-Band at various sporting and pep events. Music theory, basic musical composition, and music history will be studied. Students will have the opportunity to work on solo/ensemble music and are eligible to participate in the All-State, All-Northwest, and Region III/State Solo/Ensemble Music Festivals.

Concert Choir
9-12 grade; Offered as a year-long course
Prerequisites: none
Students will perform a variety of vocal literature in concerts, and at community events. Music theory, basic musical composition, and music history will be studied. Students will have the opportunity to work on solo/ensemble music and are eligible to participate in the All-State, All-Northwest, and Region III/State Solo/Ensemble Music Festivals.

Jazz Band
9-12 grade; Offered as a year-long course
Prerequisites: Teacher approval
Students will perform a variety of jazz band literature in concerts, and at community events. Students, in combination with Concert Band students, will serve the school community as the performing Pep-Band at various sporting and pep events. Music theory, basic musical composition, music history, and improvisation will be studied. Students will have the opportunity to work on solo/ensemble music and are eligible to participate in the All-State, All-Northwest, and Region III/State Solo/Ensemble Music Festivals.
