Reference Citation Help: Excellent for source citation and avoidance of plagiarism! http://www.lib.duke.edu/libguide/citing.htm#websites. The Citation Machine is helpful too!

SLED the State of Alaska's Electronic Doorway to resources is a state-sponsored site, developed by the Alaska State Library and the University of Alaska libraries with funding from the federal government, the State of Alaska and the Rasmuson Foundation. Sled has live homework help available from 2pm-9pm, seven days a week., as well as access to UAF's Alaska Digital Archive and a wealth of information about a variety of topics.

Databases for Alaskans: The Alaska State Library and the University of Alaska libraries have contracted with several companies to provide free Internet access to magazine articles and other useful information, Research here for current journal and magazine articles: http://sled.alaska.edu/databases/home.html. Current articles from over 2000 magazines, over 100 newspapers, transcripts from thousands of television and radio programs, photographs, maps and dozens of books and reference sources. These databases are available to all Alaskan residents, 24 hours a day, in libraries, schools and at home. Contact Mrs. Madsen for more information.

Computer Lab: The Library Media Center has an 24-station PC Lab located in the main Library. Students may use this lab any time during the day that the Library is open. Often teachers bring the entire class in to use these labs for Internet research, word processing and web page creation.

Internet Access: Kodiak High School uses a local area network which allows Internet access. Students who have read and signed the Accepted Use Policy are allowed to use the Internet and technology at Kodiak High School. Every computer in the building has access to the Internet, and there are three computer labs that have high-speed access. Students' passwords are available from the librarian or the main office, and a student's document file is available to him or her from any of the PC computers in the district.

PRINT RESOURCES:
Books: Kodiak High School's Library Media Center has over 13,000 books. The collection began as the first library of the Kodiak Public Schools in the 1940s. Some of the books are first editions and date back to 1910. Books included in this collection are reference books, paperback fiction, hardback fiction and general nonfiction. The collection can be searched through the online catalog, made possible from a grant from the Institute of Museum & Library Services and the Alaska State Library.

Newspapers: The Library Media Center receives one daily newspaper, The Kodiak Daily Mirror. We also receive The Alaska Fisherman's Journal , a monthly publication for the fishing industry, Northern Light, the journal of the University of Alaska, Anchorage, and the Alaska Horse Journal. These may be checked out or copied in the library.

Magazines: The Library Media Center subscribes to 25 periodicals. Weekly news sources include TIME, Newsweek, and U.S. News World Report. Popular teen magazines such as Seventeen, Teen Vogue, Teen Voices and Transworld Skateboarding, Environment, Popular Science and National Geographic and others are received on a monthly basis. Back issues of magazines may be checked out like other materials and are kept for up to two years.

Vertical File: An extensive Alaskan and Kodiak pamphlet and current article section exists for information not yet found in books, as well as historical artifacts about Kodiak High School.
