Learning by Design

Architectural Drafting I

 

Introduces students to basic drafting and design skills. Emphasis is placed on the use of AutoCAD design software. Students are also instructed in the use of traditional paper/pencil drawing tools. Students are guided through the design and construction of their own single story home. Basic topics covered in the design process include: basic geometry, 3-D drawings, wall sections, building codes, structural parts of a house, and cost estimation procedures.

First year model.

Architectural Drafting II

 

This course expands on topics presented in Drafting I and emphasizes the use of AutoCAD. Students will create a two story house design and build a structural model of their design. Other topics include: structural loads, building codes, estimating materials, stair math, architectural styles, alternative energy sources, and project management.

2nd Year Structural Model

 

 

Architectural Design

 

This class is for fourth year drafting students. In addition to expanded architectural studies each student is required to create a community based design project that in some way improves Kodiak.
