Jane Maria Eisemann

Ms Eisemann earned a bachelor's degree in secondary art education and a master's degree in Maritime Education and Training. She has twenty-five years experience in the fishing industry and is a Kodiak representative on the Prince Williams Sound Regional Advisory Board. Reading and playing or listening to music are some of her favorite things to do. Her favorite phases include "Throttle back and burn clean!"

Ms Eisemann teaches:

Basic Seamanship
9-12 grade; Offered first semester only
Prerequisites: none
Hands-on activities that promote mastery of basic seamanship skills will be emphasized. Knots, splicing, net mending, and basic navigational skills will be included along with a historical overview of maritime industries and issues.

Maritime Science and Technology I
10-12 grade; Offered first semester and is a two-period block
Prerequisites: none
Students will explore in-depth fisheries issues including fisheries research and management plans, focusing in on the different fisheries agencies and defining the role they play in state and federal fisheries. Fisheries biology and fish identification will also be a focus during the semester class. The class will use the school vessel, K-HI-C, to participate firsthand in fisheries research methods.

Alaska History & Geography
10th grade; Offered second semester only. Prerequisites: none
This class is designed for an in-depth study of Alaska. Study will begin with the Bering Land Bridge and the geography of Alaska and continue up to the present. Major topics to be covered include: Native groups of Alaska, the environment, Russian America, Alaskan Gold Rush, World War II and Alaska, the ALCAN, Statehood, Alaska and its economy, ANCSA, the Serum Run (Iditarod) and current events.
