First year students will be guided through the design and construction of their own single story home. Some of the topics covered in the home design process include: floor plan layout, building codes, architectural styles, structural parts, 3-D drawing and cost estimation procedures. The CAD lab at Kodiak High School is equipped with the latest Dell computers and run the most recent versions of AutoCAD design software. This is a hands-on class for those who like to build things.

Architectural Drafting II 10-12 grade; Offered as a year-long course Prerequisites: Architectural Drafting I with a "C" or higher This course expands on topics presented in Arch. Drafting I. Students will study a broad range of architectural styles and will create a two story design of their own based on one of those architectural styles. In addition students will build a wooden structural scale model of their design. In the course of the project students will learn about such topics as: stairway design, structural loads, full building sections, and architectural detailing. Students will also create a 3-D solid model of their design with the latest version of AutoDesk Architectural Desktop design software. This class is for future designers and architects.

Mechanical Drawing 11-12 grade; Offered as a year-long course Prerequisites: none Mechanical Drawing explores the graphic skills required in the fields of machine and engineering design. Students will learn methods of drawing in two and three dimensions. Students will also be asked to "invent" solutions to mechanical design problems by using different combinations of simple machines. This class is for the tinkerer, inventor, and scientist who likes to find out how things work.
