Bears Volleyball Places 4th at Regions

The Bears volleyball team fell short of bid to the state tournament after a 3rd place match loss to Wasilla on Saturday afternoon at the Northern Lights Conference tournament. Middle Hitter Alysa Horn was voted to the All Region First Team; Outside Hitter Linzee Burcham was voted to the All Region Second Team. Outside Hitter Jessie Keplinger received the All Region Good Sport Award. Read about the rest of the tournament on the Volleyball newspage

The Kodiak High School split a pair of matches on the peninsula this weekend, October 6th &7th, against southern region opponents SoHi and Kenai. On Friday, the Bears faced Soldotna, loosing the match 3-1. The Bears started slow against an aggressive Star offense that featured middle hitter Paige Blackburn. Loosing the first two games 25-17, 25-19, the Bears battled back to take game 3, 25-21 behind a resurrected defense.

On Saturday, the Bears had an early wake up call against the Kenai Kardinals as the varsity match kicked off at 11:30 a.m. Facing a season of slow starts on Saturday's, the Bears kicked into gear early and never looked back, winning the match 3 – 0. After a tough match against SoHi Friday night, the Bears defense found new life working hard to keep the ball off the floor on their side of the court as the offense worked on new plays installed during the week before.
