Bear Sports Fans, What an exciting weekend for the Bears, winning their first Girls region Track & Field Title in 24 years while at the same time, picking up another boys title to go along with the girls. But boy was it close....the girls team finished with a 14 point advantage over Colony 116-102, while the boys got the victory by a mere 2 points, 129-127.
Bear highlights included: Linzee Burcham's first individual region title winning the high Jump with a clearance of 5' 00" and another first with her 4x100m relay team as well as a 2nd & 3rd in the open sprint races. Micheal Odell's impressive quadruple; winning the Shot Put 53' 03, 100m 11.53, 300 hurdles 40.89, and missing his fourth win by only .02 of a second 23.34-23.36 in the 200m. Abby Reed's awesome come from behind win in the anchor leg of the girls 4 x 800m relay. Her 2:24.0 PR Split helpped the team of Chloe Ivanoff, Jaymi Bethea & Brianna Gibbs go from third to first for the win over Wasilla & Colony. Trevor Dunbar's Incredible two new Region Meet Record setting runs in the 3200m 9:10.12 and 1600m 4:18.04 breaking the records held by former Kodiak stars Curtis Mortenson 9:29.4 & Cory Pena 4:18.32. The feat earned Trevor the Athlete of the Meet honors. Samantha Oliver's double PR performances in back to back events 18.22 100H & 13.71 100m to take an unexpected 4th place in both events she was also called upon to run an alternate leg on the victorious 4x100m relay team. Dylan Anthony put together two PR's of his own picking up a pair of 5th place finishes in the 3200m 10:07.76 & 1600m 4:41.32 in the process he took off nearly 16 seconds from his combined time in the two events. Alysa Horn working through an injuried foot to pick 17 points in the 100H, 300H and 4x200 relay that we could not have won the meet without. Erwin Domingo going over 20 feet in the Long Jump for the first time, finishing third in 20' 03" Chaven Davidson's 2:02.63 800m 5th place finish which was over 3 full seconds better than his previous best. And last but certainly not least, after the first three great 4x4 legs of Christian Zarate 53.7, Jimmy Eggemeyer 54.1, Karsten Schick 53.2 9 (all PR's) the most exciting moment of the meet came on Andy Dittman's Anchor leg run of 52.5 that gave us just enough to inch passed Kevin Smith of Palmer to take 2nd in the race, but first in the meet, Way to go Andy! that was exhilarating. It was a true team effort on both the boys and girls sides with many other great performances that were achieved by the rest of the Bear squad and you can see them all in the attached file or at Athletic.net This week we will take our largest group ever to the State meet in
GO BEARS!
