FOOTBALL CHEERLEADING TRY OUTS: Tentatively set for MAY 19-21

Cheerleading 2008

coached by Katie Poulos

Alaska state champions for the
Small Squad Mount Division

The Bear Cheerleading squad has been busy this spring. At Regions March 6-8 in Palmer, the team set the standard for sportsmanship and school spirit. Our team showed up for the second day of regions competitions and declared the day “crazy hair day”. Not only did the girls get a wonderful response from the spectators, the officials were fond of the teams doos and even officiated to determine the best crazy hair do. It was a draw between Calista Pruitt’s bottle head meets the Jettson's hair creation, and Kari Ledoux’s mix of Richard Simons and Rainbow bright. The prize….Coach bought the winner’s lunch.

On day three all the cheerleading teams performed a cheer and dance at the girls' championship game. Kodiak came dressed to impress…the dance was to Michael Jackson's Thriller…and Kodiak Cheer came to do just that…complete with homemade tattered Kodiak shirts and ratted out hair….we were definitely show stoppers. Candice Pascua and Kimi Parker were among the ten cheerleaders in Region III named to the all-region cheer team, and Christine Pennington was elected to the all-sport team.

The cheerleaders competed in the state cheerleading competition March 18th.They are the state champions for the small squad mount division and came in third place for the small squad non mount division. Candice Pasuca, Calista Pruitt, Tatianna Long, Angie Rubina, and Samantha Oliver competed in the 5-man stunt group and took 3rd place, only missing 2nd place by a 3 point margin, and Kimi Parker, Christine Pennington, Ashleigh Siefert, Kari Ledoux, and Jessica Cinnamon also competed in this division and took 4th place, only a few points behind their other Kodiak group. Kari Ledoux competed in the Mascot competition and is the new state champ!  Kodiak went into competition again setting a standard….do it all, bring it all, and show em what we got!  We competed in every division available at competition and once again Alaska took note that although we are a little town, we are big on spirit.
