Course Descriptions for the Health Classes:
Health 11-12 grade;
Offered first or second semester Prerequisites: none
This course is geared toward getting students to make decisions for every phase of life. It is to enhance skills for accessing and applying current information and resources, relating to human growth and development, nutrition, drugs and alcohol, mental health, disease and community health agencies that can help make informed decisions. The format of the class emphasizes discussion supported by current facts. Guest speakers, specialists in the fields being discussed, are utilized to enhance discussion with up to date information.
Health 9th grade;
Offered first or second semester Prerequisites: none
The semester-long freshman health course addresses issues related to emotional changes and social choices that will be made in high school. Emphasis will be placed on developing positive self-worth and self-confidence; maintaining values while making choices about relationships, activities and peer pressure; and learning to set goals for the future and identifying choices to accomplish those goals.
