English II
10th grade; Offered as a semester or year-long course
Prerequisites: English I and/or recommendation of previous English instructor
This course is designed for students who need more practice in reading, writing, and speaking. Emphasis is placed on these as well as study and reference skills needed to succeed in high school and in society. Further development of spelling, vocabulary, and reading comprehension is also stressed. Additional emphasis is placed on technology and communication skills in the work force.

English III
11th grade; Offered as a semester or year-long course
Prerequisites: English II and/or recommendation of previous English instructor
English III is primarily for students who have not passed (or who have passed with low scores) the writing and/or reading portions of the HSGQE. Emphasis is placed on writing, reading, speaking, listening, and study skills needed to succeed in high school and society. Technology and communication skills in the work force are stressed. American Literature is also an integral part of the course. Special assistance for students who have difficulty in reading, writing, and speaking is offered in addition to further development of spelling, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. Students who have passed both the HSGQE writing and reading portions will be moved to a higher-level class if they are clearly capable of higher work.
